Remember that 'honesty' and 'trust' are the magnets that will keep people coming back. A scammer can get a million hits and nobody will revisit. I'd rather have two or three steady customers that keep coming back than be in that position. But believe me, if you operate honestly, you'll have a lot more than two or three. It just takes time for people to know you. That's why placing your articles on sites with already made credibility can really get you off to a good start.

The articles that you write to place on other sites, should be informative, but only 'teasers'. They should make the readers want to click on your link and go to your main site for more information. When the arrive at your site, there's where you make the sales pitch. You supply them with the rest of the information and an opportunity to buy.

When you learn how to effective article marketing, you've gained a powerful knowledge and saved yourself a lot of advertising money. Plus you control more of what your customers see, thus you get the kind of people to your site that are most likely to want what you have. And that's the whole point. If you continually have good content, both in your articles and on your site, you can be constantly gaining new customers, and continually have the old ones coming back.
